The 5 Best Songs of Elton John - Classic Rock Review

Almost every time Elton John records a song, it makes the top of the charts as a huge hit. There is something very magical about his style and there is no denying he is a master at entertaining us. Together with his longtime partner, Bernie Taupin, he has written and recorded hundreds of classic rock songs. Elton John has always been one of my favorite singers. I find his songs captivating and inspiring. With such a collection of hits it was a little daunting trying to come up with the 5 best. The following are my choices of his top 5 hits. Your Song This was Elton John's first hit, released in 1970. He wears his heart on his sleeve in this love song. Still popular to this day, it has been used at many wedding ceremonies and countless high school dances. Candle In The Wind This song was originally written in 1973 to honor Marilyn Monroe. In 1997, Elton John played a re-written version of this song as a tribute to Princess Diana at her funeral. It was this version that became much more popular than the original. Daniel This song was a major hit in 1973. This is one of the most misinterpreted songs of all time. It is actually about events taking place during the Vietnam War. It is a tribute to the soldiers that made it home. Crocodile Rock This song was recorded in 1972. This jukebox favorite received more airplay than any other of his songs. This still holds true today. Crocodile Rock has a real early rock 1950's sound to it. Rocket Man This song was recorded in 1972. Inspired by space travel, shooting stars and airplanes, this song really does have a spaced out feel to it. It really captures the feeling of being alone, lost in time. It has been well documented that Elton John has hundreds of hit songs, certainly too many to mention. In 1994, he was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. He was also knighted by Queen Elizabeth in 1998. What an honor. Elton John continues to write, record and tour to this day. He will hopefully continue to entertain us all with his musical genius for years to come. He basically has the same classic rock band today as he did in the beginning. Together they are a true hit making machine which is shown through his millions of fans whose hearts have been touched by his songs.
